Britain is well-known for its luxury and sportscar makes. There are Bristol, TVR, Morgan, Bentley, Rolls-Royce - just to name a few. While homegrown volume brands like Rover and Austin have disappeared, they have thrived.

One of those classic sportscar companies is Ginetta, producing vehicles since 1958. Farbio was started in 2004 by Arash Farboud, who has left the company to produce a new vehicle bearing his name.

The company developed and engineered a new supercar, the Farbio GTS, during that time. Now, Ginetta has purchased the sportscar brand in order to get it access to a roadcar ready for global sale.

Ginetta, which has a long history with roadcars but lately has been known most for its race cars, is hoping to use the purchase to increase sales in its home market the United Kingdom. The GTS will be renamed (Farbio GTS400 becomes Ginetta F400) and the company gains carbon fiber manufacturing facility of its own.

There is no word about how much the transaction was, but it likely came at a good deal for Ginetta. The current head of Farbio, Chris Marsh, will be staying on board. He previously had a stint at Marcos, one of the other British sportscar companies.  (previously with Marcos, another British sportscar-maker) remaining at the helm.

Ginetta isn't wasting any time in its big plans for expansion, sending out a team as early as next week to homologate the GTS (er, F400) for sale in the United States. Interesting acquisition, its good to see a small brand like Ginetta still alive and well.
