Future JLR Vehicles to Be Aluminum

For instance higher fuel economy that results in lower consumption and emissions, etc. The weight savings are quite pronounced - for instance the XF sedan weighs more than the new XJ. While costly, aluminum has a lot of benefits and apparently Jaguar will be employing them more in the future.
I think it's a good idea - it's something that has and will continue to help Jaguar differentiate itself from others in the luxury segment. The lighter weight really does deliver a host of benefits. The real news here is that it seems as if even Land Rovers will be aluminum in the future, and that will over a real savings.
Imagine the weight savings of an aluminum Land Rover Range Rover! That could be a real possibility. It's not just a rumor either, there is a quote in JLR's 2008-2009 Annual Report from Tata Motors Chairman Ratan Tata saying: “JLR is planning to have all its future cars constructed with light weight aluminium bodies resulting in considerable savings in weight, and reduction in CO2 emissions.” When the chairman is saying it, I'd say there is a pretty good chance it will happen!
