Camaro Beats Mustang Sales For Second Month
Today brings a lot news about automotive sales figures. Normally, CarThrottle stays away from the boring sales information dumps that a lot of automakers do at the beginning of a month.
Today brings a lot news about automotive sales figures. Normally, CarThrottle stays away from the boring sales information dumps that a lot of automakers do at the beginning of a month. However, last month we reported on something interesting - the Chevrolet Camaro passing the Ford Mustang up in sales.
It's a big deal on one hand, and on the other it isn't. It's big firstly because the Mustang has historically been a higher seller, secondly because Ford has a much better image right now and thirdly the fact that there are a lot more Mustang models (like a convertible) available. On the other hand? The Camaro is a hot and highly-anticipated new product with 10,000 backorders to fill.
Two months certainly doesn't a trend make, and there is a further story that the numbers tell for July. Camaro sales for the month are down, with July posting 7,133 versus June's 9,320. The only way the Camaro beat the Mustang in August was because the Mustang posted a decrease of it's own, albeit by a smaller margin, that resulted in 6,686 units sold this month versus 7,632 last month.
This definitely doesn't bode well for the Camaro in the future if the sales race matters at all (which it doesn't). Still, it is fun to watch the back and forth between the two longtime rivals. Guess we'll have to wait until the numbers this month to know more! Should be an interesting ride.
