E63 AMG Coupe Black Series On The Way From Benz?
Here's an interesting news item: Mercedes is supposedly rolling out a Black Series version of their E63 Coupe. What's interesting is the implications, the main one being that, somehow, the standard E63 Coupe is somehow deficient.
Here's an interesting news item: Mercedes is supposedly rolling out a Black Series version of their E63 Coupe. What's interesting is the implications, the main one being that, somehow, the standard E63 Coupe is somehow deficient. Seriously, as it sits, the currently available E63 is damn impressive, so how much better could a Black Series be?
Well, it turns out there's always room for improvement.
Earlier this year, just after the standard coupe was launched it was said that Mercedes-Benz had no plans for a high-performance variant. But then rumors started to swirl that a 500-horsepower plus E63 Black Series might be on the way. Now comes word that the E63 Black Series powered by a high performance variant of the AMG V8 is under development by the boys from Stuttgart. The word is that the new model will crank out more than 505 horsepower.
Other than talk about the engine and its output, other details are scarce. Expectations are that the E63 AMG Black Series will have lightweight body panels, sports seats, a firm suspension and a very exclusive list of well-healed owners.
So, sounds like lots of fun if you've got the cash. The only question that really puzzles me is the name. Ever since MB rolled out this whole "Black Series" I found it rather comical, especially for a German car company. "Black Series" sounds like something from a kids TV show, the name of the bad guys or something, not a name that a car company, let alone one with a reputation for staid conservatism like Mercedes Benz would pull out of a hat. Don't get me wrong, I've got nothing against who these cars perform or the numbers on their dyno sheets ... but that name sounds like something out of a Fast & Furious movie.
By the way, astute readers will notice that those are shots of the E63 sedan. Naturally, since the coupe isn't out yet.
