The Dodge Challenger SRT Demon Has Monster 315 Tyres Front And Rear

Dodge has released a teaser image of its Challenger SRT Demon, revealing a wide body and massive tyres

The trickle of information regarding the new Challenger SRT Demon continues to gently flow, with the latest nugget of info being a particularly juicy one.

It’s all about tyres. Really, really fat tyres. As in 315 width boots, at the front and at the rear. Yes, you read that correctly.

This has led to some speculation about the Demon going all-wheel drive, but we’d be surprised if Dodge managed to cut that 90kg weight it told us about recently and add all the required gubbins for powering the front wheels. What the hilariously large front tyre size does show us though - plus the teaser pic having a bit of a drag racing background - is that the Demon is about straight line heroics and little else.

They’re some rather special boots too. They’re Nitto NT05Rs, developed especially for the Demon. They’re also proper drag radials, making the Demon the first ever production car to wear such a tyre. Oh, and the sidewalls have neat little Demon logos, which is nice.

The new tyres are wrapped around 18 x 11-inch wheels, and the arches have been flared to suit. As a result, the Demon is 3.5 inches wider than a standard Challenger, giving the car one hell of a rear profile.

It’s expected to be revealed at the New York Auto Show this April.

AWD was the first thing to jump into my mind. It doesn’t make much sense to me to have such wide tyres in the front in a RWD drag car. But then again, I’m no drag racing expert

I guess its same front and rear so you can just rotate your rears after you ruin them.

Come on, now… Your post is near identical to mine, with the same photos. Except my post came four hours earlier.

You actually expect them to cover something else seeing how this is the newest info about the car ? Same applies for the pictures, not like there’s 100’s of pictures for them to select that point out the car’s wide tires. Chill.

It’s a news post based on the limited information in the press release, so this, and every other story out there about the latest Demon teaser are going to be very similar.

Appreciate we were a little late to the punch with this one, but editorial is separate to the community section of the site, and we’ll almost always run news stories ourselves, using editor’s pick more for blog posts.

For news stories it’s important to get the tone, details and information correct - for instance your piece speculated it might be AWD, which given the weight drop we find highly unlikely.

I’d imagine it would be “challenging” to change those heavy 315’s.
