The auto market is rebounding and the American manufacturers are well-positioned with a host of fresh new products. General Motors has done well with the 2010 models like the Buick LaCrosse and Regal and the Chevrolet Equinox, Cruze and GMC Terrain.
However with strong redesigns of models like the F-150, Fiesta, Fusion, Explorer and others, the Ford brand significantly outsold Chevrolet, and helped Ford Motor Company sell more than GM last month for the first time in over a decade.
The mid-size segment, with the Fusion, is an area Ford has showed particular strength. As such, it is time for Chevrolet to up its game. The Malibu, introduced for the 2008 model year, is falling behind. The company has progressed significantly in its developmental capabilities since then, and a fresh new competitor is needed.
Thankfully, one is on the way for the 2013 model year. The new car is an all-new model that promises to vault Chevrolet into the top tier of the mid-size class in a similar way that the Cruze has done for the brand in the small car segment.
The introduction will take place this month at the Shanghai Auto Show. To build anticipation, the company has released a teaser images and some videos. We can't tell too much, but with some Camaro-influence the new sedan looks very promising.
