Buy A Used, 10-Year-Old Porsche Cayenne GTS For 1/6th Of A New One

Here’s a Cayenne with a V8 for just £16,995, albeit with sky-high mileage...

We’re in no doubt that the new Porsche Cayenne GTS will be a fantastic car. The trim has long been a sweet spot of the SUV’s range, and anything with a V8 in 2024 deserves some level of commendation. It is, however, a very expensive car – starting at £106,100 before you even look at an options box.

Naturally, this had us thinking about what the classifieds could have in store, leading us to this rather tantalising 2014 Porsche Cayenne GTS for £16,995 - about 1/6th of the price of a new one.

For that, you’re still getting a V8 SUV and with a decent turn of pace. In the age of 600bhp+ electric Hyundais, 414bhp and 380lb ft when new may no longer seem the mammoth amount it once did, but it’s nothing to turn your nose up at.

With that on tap, and sent to all four wheels through an eight-speed Tiptronic gearbox the Cayenne GTS could crack 0-62mph in 5.7 seconds and 162mph top speed. We say ‘could’, as presumably this engine will have lost a few ponies based on the mileage.

Yes, this has been a well-used GTS in its 10 years of existence, covering 124,756 miles in that time - or an average just below 12,500 per year. The listing doesn’t give us much on how it’s been looked after, with no mention of service history and simply stating ‘healthy engine’ in what reads like a copy/paste block of text. That’s a bit of a red flag admittedly, but one that could be resolved with a phone call and the dealer is offering three months of warranty.

Whoever ordered the car new didn’t hold back on the options box. Goodies on this example include adaptive cruise control (complete with blind spot assist on a 10-year-old car), Park Assist front and rear, heated and ventilated front seats and even four-zone climate control. Admittedly, that’s more stuff to go wrong but at least while it’s all working, it’s a lot of tech for not a lot of cost.

The tan leather interior looks in pretty decent nick considering the mileage though, if in need of a good clean, and there doesn’t look to be any major issues with the body or paintwork either.

Its MOT is due to expire in July, so that’s another thing to keep in mind, though there have been no advisories in the last three tests. It did fail in June 2020, although that was for tyre tread depth rather than anything particularly concerning.

Tempted? We would be too. There’s always the caveat that if something goes wrong, it’s going to be expensive to fix and for us it’d come down to the documented service history whether to take a punt or not. For a brief few months though, this could be one tasty buy.
