Perhaps the brand that has been doing the best of all is Buick. That comes as a surprise to many industry observers who left the brand for dead.
The Enclave started the revolution back in 2008, being a competitive product. It followed with the LaCrosse and now the European-sourced Buick Regal is doing well. What's next for the brand? A small car to slot into the emerging small premium segment.
We've been hearing about a Buick small car for quite some time, and the rumors have been true - officially confirmed today by GM. Not only have they been confirmed, but a teaser image has been released. For a luxury brand, introducing a small car is tricky, especially for a recently resurgent one like Buick. It has to be done right or it will risk destroying the luxury image Buick is trying to build. It must be well-optioned and truly a premium product.
From the looks of what we can tell so far, it appears that is the case. The Verano (we hate the name) has luxury-like projector headlights with unique blue rings, chrome detailing and it looks stunning in the cocoa brown color that debuted on the Enclave.
The image gives us hope for the product's potential. We'll have to wait to see the interior, final specifications list and price to know for sure. One thing we know for sure - there better be no cheap rental grade base model.
