Bob Lutz Reckons Collectors Should Buy A Tesla Model S While They Still Can

From the sounds of it, Bob Lutz - whose lengthy career took in stints at BMW, Ford, Chrysler and General Motors - rather likes the Tesla Model S.
“A Model S, especially with the performance upgrades, is one of the fastest, best handling, best braking sedans that you could buy in the world today…The acceleration times will beat any $350,000 European exotic,” he told a recent forum for car collectors in Arizona. What he went on to say about Tesla as a company wasn’t quite as complimentary.
He mentioned the firm’s heavy losses and the ‘production hell’ issues that have blighted the Model 3, and expressed doubt about the Californian company’s future. In fact, he even went as far as saying, “Those of you who are interested in collector cars, may I suggest buying a Tesla Model S while they’re still available.”

Speaking to the LA Times following the event, Lutz said that his suggestion was “semi-serious.”
“Twenty-five years from now, [the Model S] will be remembered as the first really good-looking, fast electric car. People will say ‘Too bad they went broke,’” he added.
A gloomy prediction, but with the company’s market value currently sitting at nearly $60 billion, Tesla won’t be going anywhere just yet.

Where can I place an order and when is the expected delivery date?
The only choice for GM is to merge with Tesla. Because if Tesla does survive ,,, GM won’t

I bet to differ… but isn’t everything on the share market overpriced?

“A Model S, especially with the performance upgrades, is one of the fastest, best handling, best braking sedans that you could buy in the world today” Since when did the Model S handle and brake properly? It couldn’t even beat a Charger Hellcat around the Motor Trend figure of eight.
However, in the future, these will be somewhat collectible due to their rarity, because based on Tesla’s reliability and build quality, I can’t see many surviving.
What a joke. No one will want to collect an ugly overweight pig of a paper weight that doesn’t function anymore. And as for tesla motors going bankrupt and closing down, i dont think they’ll disappear considering the amount of infrastructure investments being made. If anything someone will buy them out.
“The acceleration time will beat any $350,000 European exotic”
I hate it when people keep comparing electric vehicles to vehicles with ICE. Of course it accelerates, it’s got an electric engine. Torque is available immediately. Even a Traxxas XO-1, which is a $1k hobby-grade RC car, will beat a sports car in terms of initial acceleration. Because it’s an electric RC car.
Plus, it may beat $350k European exotics in acceleration, but it gets beaten by a $100k V8-powered ICE boat. And it won’t handle like a $350k European exotic.
An old man trying to be relevant in a industry that is leaving him in the dust. Unless the other auto makers pivot faster Tesla may well own the market.
