Bespoke Winter Tyres Launched For The McLaren Sports Series

In an effort to keep McLaren customers in snowy parts of the world moving, the company has worked with Pirelli to create special Sottozero tyres - and they even come with their own set of winter wheels

McLaren prides itself on the fact that its customers like to drive their cars all year round. Most of its models are surprisingly comfortable, after all.

To make that just a little safer in the winter months, McLaren is now offering a bespoke, company-approved Pirelli MC Sottozero tyre option with its own lightweight 14-spoke alloy wheel.

The McLaren Winter Wheels and Tyres Set comes as a set of four, obviously, and comes ready to slot onto any Sports Series model. It’s designed to let owners, particularly in temperate countries where they grit the roads at this time of year, like the UK, protect the ‘summer’ wheels and tyres that came with their car.

In some countries and/or local areas it’s also a legal requirement to have winter boots on your car. McLaren is, to an extent, just meeting customer demand. Pirelli has worked with the company before on bespoke summer tyres, so that relationship was already there.

The Sottozero rubber, in this guise tuned specifically to McLaren’s needs, can reduce a Sports Series car’s sub-seven-degree stopping distance on wet roads by 10 per cent. On snowy roads it’s 20 per cent.

The tyres are available independently of the wheels, too. Any 540C, 570S, 570GT or 570S Spider owner who wants the McLaren-spec winter Pirellis can order them and have them fitted to their regular wheels.

Now instead of having 7 different tyre choices in F1, maybe they can go with snow tyres instead of the mega soft or super hard. If only FIA would do this. I’d really love to see F1 in the snow race tracks.😫

Snow tires would not have as much contact area on the asphalt as a Hypersoft tyre. But I still get what you mean

I love how irrationnal people are. I don’t get why your comment gets so much downvotes, it’s totally the truth. I guess most people who downvoted didn’t experience anything colder than -10°C and anything more than two inches of snow. They need a reality check.

Honestly McLaren over the past 3 years has moved to supercar game on more than anyone in 10 years.

Definitely. Koenigsegg and Pagani are also amazing, but road-car-wise, I think the Sports and Super Series cars are the best in their class which is a serious achievement considering how crowded the market is.

If people don’t want to use their 911 in winter condition, they surely won’t use a 570S. This is useless.

RWD cars in the snow aren’t death traps, if you just don’t treat the throttle like an on/off switch.

Few things are more awesome than a supercar that can be driven and enjoyed all year round, in a wide range of conditions. That driving experience makes the bond with its driver even greater!

Would still use a truck with 4x4 for any winter conditions where I live. Regularly getting feet of snow. Can’t go out in anything that’s not a truck unless you enjoy shoveling snow.
