Avant GT Is New Electric Car Effort From Taiwan
Over in Taiwan, a new electric car has been introduced. It is dubbed the Studio X-Gene Avant GT, and is the brainchild of design firm Studio X-Gene (which we had never heard of before), technology companies Delta Electronics, Wistron, and Qisda.

Financial backing is provided by Altair ProductDesign. The result is quite impressive actually, with the Avant GT being a very polished all-electric sedan that was first shown at the Shanghai Motor Show.
The design isn't revolutionary, but is is different for sure. The front end is grille-less, with hints of the Porsche Panamera. There is a rising belt line that meets up with a hatchback rear end. The look overall is thick and substantial; we aren't quite sure how we feel about it. The interior is focused toward the driver, and is very futuristic with a set of screens providing all the instrumentation. The layout reminds us a bit of the Volvo S80 interior, and that is not a bad thing.
For a company just starting out the effort is commendable. Besides images, there isn't much available such as specifications or pricing. It most likely will be vehicle only sold in Asia, but that is just our conjecture. It isn't clear where they intend to price the Avant GT; they say it is a “a pure electric sports grand tourer.” If they intend on competing with the Fisker Karma and pricing it at a similar level, we'd say it's a no go. On the other hand, if it is offered at a low price, it could carve a niche for itself.
