An Armed Criminal Led Cops On A 130mph Chase Through Georgia
The incredible footage above was filmed by the dashcam of a police officer in Georgia, after he was involved in a chase that involved eight agencies and hit speeds of 130mph.
KCBD reports that cops were responding to a call after a man was robbed at gunpoint (it turned out to be a realistic looking BB gun). The suspect, 22-year-old William Owens, stole the man’s wallet, mobile phone and Toyota Tundra pickup truck.
Owens then led responding officers on a 50-mile chase, with the camera car joining the convoy just over halfway through. During the 15-minute video, the Toyota can be seen driving at high speed, driving on the wrong side of the road, and attempting to ram officers. Police worked brilliantly together to block intersections ahead of the chase, ensuring no one was caught up in a collision.
Once State Patrol Trooper Jack Strickland arrived on the scene, he set about attempting to PIT the truck, succeeding at the third attempt. Other officers then boxed the driver in, however he kept his foot on the accelerator in an apparent attempt to escape. He was pulled from the car and arrested.
Owens has been charged with hijacking, armed robbery, aggravated assault on a peace officer, fleeing, and probation and parole violations, however he is expected to also face charges in the other counties the chase passed through.
