What's the worst that can happen by driving with a broken catalytic converter?

Hi guys,
My Golf’s IV 1.4 16V catalytic converter broke yesterday, and I can hear a noise like that in this video (I know he’s not recording his catalytic converter, but the noise is the same), and I also identified that the noise is coming from the catalytic converter.
Now the question is: What’s going to happen if I drive with catalytic converter broken for a while? It costs a lot of money to get a new one, and my parents just bought this car, even if this was over their budget (still paying for it). I just don’t want to make them sad, by paying for other things for the moment, and I can’t go to work this period (I have my lasts exams, because I finished High School).

Edit1: I also heard that I can replace it with an usual pipe/tube (I don’t know the right word in English), but there might be a problem with the second sensor, after catalytic converter. What should I do? Also, keep in mind that my car is a VW Golf…If I do something wrong, Christmas will come sooner in my the dashboard lights section… :))

Your car will be puking out way more emissions. It could also be blocked up depending on how the insidey bits have broke.

Get a test pipe if you can, or go to a junkyard and see if there is a model similar to yours with a functioning catalytic converter

You will not pass emisions and the car will sound horrible, also exhaust gasses may enter cabin space if you are unlucky. If you cant find a new one for the time being you could replace it with a straight pipe (temporarily) untill the next MOT.
