Proton Satria Neo, Malaysian first 2 door Super Mini
If I was given a bucket list of Proton Car that I wish to have for my own, the Satria Neo CPS would always be in my list especially the R3 model. I have a soft spot on the car ever since owning it on March last year. The handling is so precise on corners without any too much understeer and when you have the CPS version, on certain RPM you can feel the adrenaline rush just like the VTEC system. I have kept my car relatively stock and the only engine modification that I have done was only a drop in K&N air filter and just changing the spark plugs. It runs perfectly in RON95 petrol and return in a very good gas mileage, which makes my pocket really happy until today. The Proton Satria Neo CPS in my very own personal opinion is the best Proton in terms of the looks, performance and handling. The 2011 Proton Satria Neo CPS has the aggressive looks that looks slightly resemble of its predecessor the Proton Satria GTI.
Seeing one being converted into a very fast machine gave me a good feeling that our local car can considered as our very own Malaysian made sport car. Developed by Proton and Lotus engineering, the Campro also known as a high revving engine, as high RPM will be required should the driver need some power on the wheels. According to Proton engineers, the trick most would use is to shift just a small degree rev cut point to get to the power bend after a gear change, and this is most useful with the CPS Campro engines. On this featured articles, just imagine how much effort and passion was put into this beautiful car and to transform it to a more powerful street machine. I feel very happy because for this featured unit is owned by a very humble man from the city of Kota Kinabalu, named Denaila, a friend of mine and a step brother in the Proton Satria Club. His machine has a lot of upgrades done to it and any other enthusiast who really wants to go fast.
First to go is the stock Campro S4PH Engine camshaft is replaces with a Matspeed Camshaft to get a higher revving on the engine while increasing acceleration. The cylinder head get a port and polish job before the block and cylinder head are united. The Works Adjustable cam pulleys are used together with the cams, while the stock crank pulley is replace by Aerospeed. Next the stock OEM drop in air filter box is replaced with a Works Engineering Carbon fibre intake that provides more consistent air flow for the engine. To have a precise of smooth gear change, the stock clutch is replaced with an Excedy Heavy Duty clutch.
On the exhaust side is a custom made 4-2-1 header made by Tonnka with 2”straight piping and a RX8 Greedy Twin Muffler. This Satria Neo also gets a brand new brain in the form of Unichip Q+ ECU that was tuned by Vis Autolab Works of Kota Kinabalu to have a high horsepower application.
The superb handling is the Satria Neo strong point but to transform it into a street legal machine, a lot of work has to be done in the handling section. As such the owner had replaced the OEM adjustable to a Zeroone Adjustable. Having switched to a smaller wheel and tyre for quicker acceleration from a stock 16 inch rims, the newly light weight CE28 15 inch rims is rubber wrapped with a Hankook Ventus V12 Evo tyres.
In every typical Satria Neo interior fashion consist of the same looks. In order to have a sportier looks and to be different, the stocks original front seat is replace with a Recaro SR3 semi bucket seats that was taken out from a Honda Integra and the original steering wheels is replaced by a Proton Preve CFE steering wheel in order to have the luxury feel.
On the exterior side, this Satria Neo CPS looks sporty without any additional body kits. As such, this white Satria Neo was left stock in its appearance with the additional of custom decal that looks exactly the same as Team Proton R3 that was used at the Malaysian Super Series on 2011.
To conclude, with a lot of performance had been done on this beautiful machine. I’d say the owner if this featured Proton Satria Neo CPS would be driving in a big smile. The owner clearly knew what he wanted on his eye catching machine with some serious power.
