I drive a 2013 VW Polo 1.2 tsi FWD and I'd like to know how can I start learning a bit of drifting... Any tips and tricks on how to start? Is it even possible with a FWD car?

Well, you are in luck, because you got just the wrong car for it. Doesn’t matter though. All you need is 2 trays.
Step 1 : Go to mcdonalds, order food and run away with the trays laughing maniacally and flailing uncontrollably.
Step 2 : Go back and pick up the french fries you left all over, littering is bad.
Step 3 : Put the trays under the rear wheels of your car.
Step 4 : Put the parking brake on - start driving, the rear will slide a lot.
Step 5 : You will get some sideways action, but the throttle control is exact opposite of what you should be doing in a RWD car.

The S80 Rallyist

Try a Scandinavian Flick; a rallying manoeuvre that works best on dirt or gravel. You want to turn the car slightly opposite of the upcoming corner, and then flick it the opposite direction. The car will understeer at first, then oversteer upon correction. Please, if you are doing this on a populated road, make sure that you can see traffic coming both ways, and you can see the surface of the road. You’d hate to be drifting the corner only to see a child retrieving a ball from the middle of the street just as you plow over him.

Please hoon responsibly.

There is FWD drifting. You need better hanbrake and skinnier tires to put in the back, some suspension adjustments and there you go

actually having driven the exact same car, and driving a vw up every day (yes almost half the power assuming you got the 105hp) these things do get quite a bit of lift off oversteer. Find a big wide corner, get in in a fast but controlable manner, accelerating, and then about a car lenght before the apex lift off the throttle and turn the steering into the corner with a bit of aggression… espetially in the wet the car will definetelly oversteer but your esp will stop the slide after a couple of seconds… but for road driving at least for me a couple of seconds slide is more than enough… i know this is not drifting but it’s hoon to do and it works at relativelly low speeds… if you want more than that wait until you buy rwd… for the handbrake is to dangerous and damaging to the car
