Toyota has released the first official TRD parts for the A90 GR Supra, just a week after European journalists - including us - got hold of the car for the first time.

The selection - being sold in Japan - is fairly small to begin with, and there’s no engine-boosting option yet (we know you wanted to know), but each of TRD’s upgrades is designed to improve performance slightly. First is a raft of carbonfibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) bodywork extras that improve high-speed handling and stability.

TRD’s pre-planned modifications start with a three-piece GR front splitter that lowers the chin by 14mm and adds wider side fins that help divert air around the wheel arches. When travelling fast enough for it to have an effect, the setup first adds a tiny bit of downforce and then, at very high speeds, reduces front axle lift for greater stability and reduced bum clench on turn-in.

Moving around to the sides, there’s a pair of GR side skirts that drop the sills by 4mm and, err, look nice. Above them are GR trim inserts for the doors, shaped to suppress turbulence and smooth the air flow over the back end. All of the side parts are made from the same CFRP as the splitter.

At the back the body kit is completed by wide side-spoilers that drop the effective corner height by 24mm and reduce the drag and turbulence at the point where the air detaches from the car. These (likewise CFRP) extras improve rear stability at high speeds so should be good for track use.

The final bodywork addendum is a rather pretty CFRP boot tip spoiler. Designed to improve the front-rear aero balance by adding a little extra downforce at the back, the lip spoiler also looks sweet as hell and should smooth the air flow as it presses on the rear wheels.

Finally there’s a TRD forged wheel in a racy black 10 twin-spoke design. These 19-inch hoops measure nine inches wide at the front and 10 at the back, suitable for 255/35 and 275/35 tyres respectively.

TRD says they improve steering response and improve straight-line stability. All we know is they look good enough to eat.

Toyotoa went from having no “sporty” branding to having multiple in a space of like 2 years…

GR, GRMN, TRD?.. probably GRMNTRD coming out soon?

Me confused

I feel like these add-ons are going to fetch significant prices in a couple years when sold separately
