The Ford Edge ST Is The Warmed-Up SUV We Weren't Expecting

Take the most powerful Edge, give its V6 even more urge, slap it with Ford Performance chassis magic and you can produce one unlikely new sports-SUV

Ford has confirmed that the Edge ST is happening. That’s right, a hot SUV with a sprinkling of Ford Performance magic is coming.

Depending on which side of the Atlantic you call home, the either massive or barely mid-sized SUV has been given suspension upgrades, an eight-speed automatic with Sport Mode, all-wheel drive and a turbocharged EcoBoost V6 with 335bhp and 380lb ft.

The Ford Edge ST Is The Warmed-Up SUV We Weren't Expecting

It isn’t much faster than the American Edge Sport model, gaining just 20bhp and 30lb ft. But it should handle with loads more poise and panache. In fairness, it probably won’t come to the UK but America should lap it up – or at least that’s what Ford is hoping.

The one slightly iffy part that we can see in the fun reveal video, featuring a certain Ben Collins of Top Gear’s Stig fame, is the noise. It sounds a bit flat for a sporty V6. We’ll look out for more on this in the next few weeks.

I didn’t know the “Most pointless car of 2018” award would be handed out this early.

Does it only come in automatic? If so, why would I bother.

Why would a crossover have a manual?

Why would they put a manual in a crossover?! Literally nobody would buy it. This car will be much better with an auto box. I’m sorry but people that think every single vehicle needs to be a manual just drive me insane.

It’s a bloody suv. You ain’t getting no damn cornering and b road pleasure with that. It will be used like every other city suv, a “look at me, i’ll never drive on mud tracks”

It’s funny, looking through the comments, all the people hating on it don’t actually own cars themselves. I bet if this SUV was handed to them, they’d be happy with it

I hate them. I like real 4x4s. Hate SUVs. I’ve been driving 15 years. I can see they would be great in places like Russia, Australia or Spanish Islands where the roads are patchy/unpaved but In the UK where I live you’re having a laugh.

I would rather walk than drive this thing.

Animosity not just because of how awful it would be to drive but because “cars” like this rid the world of actually good cars because companies make a load of money off of these, so all they want to make are these abominations.

Max money for as little quality as possible is the game with any SUV like the Edge. It needs to be burned.

Before Edge ST: An ST that England won’t have but the states will? Oh I can’t wait!
After Edge ST Unveilment: Ford, you have failed me.

Looks like a fun car for a car guy with a family, pretty conservative design and doesn’t seem over done. I think it would be a great daily.
