Do you think it is a normal Bentley Continental? Look it twice! – Zagato Bentley GTZ

Supercars and luxury vehicles are the kind of products that only a few with deep pockets can acquire.

Supercars and luxury vehicles are the kind of products that only a few with deep pockets can acquire. Usually this kind of customers do not feel happy with the cars as they are offered at the dealership, so they prefer to ask for the personalization options that might include special colours, dashboard trims, kind of leather and in some cases different performance packages.

However there are also some clients who are even more eccentric and would rather pay more for products that nobody else can get.

It was offered with a two-tone option for its body.
It was offered with a two-tone option for its body.

And that is what happened with the Bentley Continental GT from 2006 when a famous car designer decided to put their hands on the British brand’s flagship: They created only nine vehicles named Zagato Bentley GTZ.

In essence it has the same W12 twin-turbo engine of the Bentley Continental GT of 6.000 cc which produces 552 HP at 6000 rpm, and with a maximum torque of 553lb ft at 1750 rpm. The drivetrain is also the same: A four wheel drive with a six speed gearbox. However it is said that it handles better than a normal Continental GT as it is 100 kg lighter, is equipped with the same suspension and the same brakes of the standard model, and it has a better designed tail which resulted in a stable vehicle at high speeds.

The GTZ was equipped with fog lights, and some shapes of its body were standed out.

Even if the front looks similar to the basic model, the changes are not like a simple facelift: Zagato redesigned the grill, bumpers, wheel arches, and the roof and the rear window were shaped like a double bubble. All the body panels are different from any place where you look, but without losing the essence of Bentley. It also was offered with an option of a two-tone body.

The interior also received part of the treatment; The Z-shaped stitched on the headrests are part of the details that are offered in the full-leather interior. However it was kept unaltered except for the rear seats due to the shape of the roof and the rear window, which do not offer the best visibility.

The leather is important for every luxury car. In this case, the Z-shaped stitches on the headrests give a good styling to the interior

And all this exclusivity has a price tag as well (sadly). Even if a “Stock” Bentley Continental GT cost in 2008 was around $198,413 USD, the conversion fee by Zagato was above $1’06 million dollars. Nevertheless, according to RM Auctions, a GTZ might be bought around $415,000 USD to $532,000 USD in auction.

I saw one about two years ago. It was for sale at a San Francisco dealer for around 650k. I personally did not enjoy looking at it.

The original is so boring and ugly that this time Zagato failed to make it worse, and somehow made it better.
