Audi's 518bhp A3 Clubsport Is A Weapons-Grade Super Saloon

As it stands, if you want a quick version of the handsome Audi A3 saloon, the 296bhp S3 is as hot as it gets. If you're greedy and want more, though, how about this: the Audi A3 Clubsport Quattro, which has a gigantic 518bhp and 443lb ft.

Sadly, it's just a concept, and there are no plans for a production version. However, it's a pretty clear hint at what's to come in the expected RS3 saloon, which is thought to be arriving in 2015. It's powered by the same 2.5-litre turbocharged five-pot as the TT-RS and the old RS3 hatch, but with a larger turbo, exhaust modifications and a new intercooler.

This results in a 183bhp and 112lb ft increase, making this one seriously quick super saloon. 0-62mph takes just 3.6 seconds, while the top speed is 193mph. Power goes to all four wheels via Audi's seven-speed S-Tronic dual-clutch gearbox and a Haldex-style differential. The suspension is stiffer and lower than the S3 saloon, while each 21-inch wheel fits over a giant carbon-ceramic brake disc.

On the outside, the A3 saloon has been given a butch makeover, with a chunky diffuser and the signature RS oval exhausts at the rear, carbonfibre sill extensions at the side, and a meaty carbonfibre splitter at the front.

When the hot RS3 saloon does eventually arrive, it'll most likely be closer to the 335bhp figure of the recently departed RS3 hatchback. In any case, if the Clubsport concept is anything to go by, it'll look stunning. The concept will make its public debut at the Wörthersee GTI Fan Meet later this month.
