Top 10 Car Ads Guaranteed To Blow Your Socks Off

I'm CEO, bitch. Imagine you're the Chief Executive Officer of a worldwide auto manufacturer. Your team has just polished off your new automobile masterpiece that will transform company sales growth.

I'm CEO, bitch. Imagine you're the Chief Executive Officer of a worldwide auto manufacturer. Your team has just polished off your new automobile masterpiece that will transform company sales growth. Designs have been finalised, the product has passed tests and the shipment is on its way to dealerships across the world. However, they won't sell without all your potential buyers knowing it exists which is why you'll need to broadcast an advert.

Here are ten of the greatest, funniest and most controversial car ads from the last 12 years.

10. VW Golf: Some things are best left alone.

Golf fans, get your hankies at the ready. Ahem. Volkswagen wanted to show the world in 2001 that the standard car was perfect. Because Volkswagens have feelings you know! No need for owners to embarrass them by dressing them up in fake tinsel from the aftermarket shop, y'know.

9. Skoda Yeti: Pimp My Ride

I miss Pimp My Ride so much. So did Skoda this year, which is why they asked Mr X to the Zee to do one final shoot for 'Czech Coast Customs' by turning this fella's ancient Suzuki Swift into a brand new Yeti. Yo dawg wait a minute; the Czech Republic doesn't even have a coast!

8. Chevrolet Corvette: The official car of your dreams

This advert accurately describes what the Chevrolet Corvette is all about. Be honest, you looked at one and saw yourself in it just like that kid, didn't you? Unfortunately, because of the Ofcom Brigade, who thrive off television complaints, this advert was banned a few months after broadcasting. Note to all 11-year-olds: if you watched that advert, cars can't actually fly. Back To The Future lied to us all.

7. Toyota RAV4: A car to make your own

Here's one hell of a psychotic offering from Toyota. Their RAV4 4x4 is so brilliant, the Marketing Team go so far as to believe you would attempt to murder your other half just to get behind the wheel of one for the day. Predictably, just like the Corvette advert, this car ad was eventually banned.

6. Volkswagen Polo: Small but tough

One of the main selling points of the Polo, aside from its 'small brother of the Golf' looks, is its German solidity. Every customer wants peace of mind; that when a suicide bomber nicks it and uses it for bad, it can be quickly collected from the scene unharmed. Yeah, we just went there.

5. VW Golf GTi: The Original. Updated.

Like all other Volkswagen adverts, this one for the Mark 5 GTI accurately describes what the car should be via the best metaphor possible. This remix of 'Singing In The Rain' was a hit for Mint Royale and provided the perfect backing track to help George Sampson win Britain's Got Talent in 2008. As for the car, that was Top Gear's car of the year in 2004.

4. Renault Mégane: New keyless technology

If your car comes with a unique selling point, make that the basis of your car advert. That's Marketing 101 right there. Keyless entry is a very handy gadget you can find on your Mégane - Mark II being one of the first to have it. The UK just got the advert about its shaking derriere with the appropriate Groove Armada backing track which is nothing compared to this even more hilarious commercial.

3. Honda Accord: The Cog

Did you know? Those Honda Accord parts, well, they're real. The whole ad really was done in one take. Those tyres genuinely went up that see saw set up thanks to wheel weights. No special effects were used whatsoever! I urge you to check out the 'making of' video on YouTube after you've seen the main ad where you'll see a mini diary of the hardest 5 months of the makers' lives.

2. Ford SportKa: The Ka's evil twin

What do us British lads love about a hot hatch? One key factor for me has to be the standard menacing bodykits. Ford happily knew this and designed the SportKa as the Ka's evil twin. Perfect for people that don't want cats snooping around their pride and joy.

1. Ford SportKa: The SportKa also hates pigeons

SportKa owners - in fact, many car owners - hate it when pigeons use their whip as a toilet. The SportKa has the perfect feature to eliminate this common problem. OK, I can hear you checking out a used car website for one right now, it doesn't actually have those features on it just so you know. While this and the cat killer advert are brilliant they were both eventually banned. Pity.
