That Sports Car From BMW And Toyota Is Getting Closer To Completion
It seems like we’ve been waiting ages for this BMW/Toyota collaboration to bear fruit, but it looks like we’re getting ever closer to a tangible product from this partnership. The new Supra? We’re already trembling with excitement at the prospect.
According to a Bloomberg report:
Cooperation on the underpinnings of the vehicles “has moved on to the concept phase and is running according to plan,” Munich-based BMW said in a statement to Bloomberg News. A technical feasibility study that began in January 2013 has been “successfully completed.”
What could potentially be the next BMW Z4/Toyota Supra is part of a larger partnership between the two manufacturers, which is expected to last until at least 2020. It is unclear exactly what else they’ll produce vehicle-wise, but we do know they’re working on fuel cell research, lightweight technology and battery tech.
The secrecy surrounding the project also means we don’t know much about the sports car project, but chances are it will be front-engined and rear-wheel drive with some kind of hybrid technology.
