Say Hello To McLaren's New 4.0-litre Twin-Turbo V8
As the reveal of McLaren’s new ‘P14’ supercar (you know, the car we’ve already seen thanks to a leak) draws closer, Woking has given us some tantalising details about its V8 heart.
It’s a new 4.0-litre, twin-turbo unit, dubbed M840T. While McLaren hasn’t given a power figure, the firm does mention that it’ll haul the 650S replacement from 0-124mph in 7.8 seconds. That’s not just 0.6sec quicker than the outgoing car - it’s also 0.1sec quicker than the 675LT. Oh, and it’ll do a standing quarter-mile in 10.3 seconds. Crikey.
The M840T also gets a pair of “ultra-low inertia” twin-scroll turbochargers to kill lag and speed up throttle response, and the top of the unit will be illuminated when the car is unlocked. It should sound better than the old 3.8 too, with McLaren telling us to expect a “soulful, clean and crisp exhaust note”. In other words, it’ll probably be worth dropping the windows down when you go through a tunnel.
The car will be revealed in full at the Geneva Motor Show on 7 March.

Time to swap this into an RX7
Or GT86
RX7 fanboys be like
Not a bad idea actually….
More upsizing! Always found the idea of a <4.0 V8 a bit weird…
Ferrari did some very small V12’s…
A smaller displacement, high cylinder count engine has something sophisticated about it…may just be me
This trend of putting LEDs everywhere (UNNECCESSARY lightning in interior - looking at new RR and Mini, engine bays, etc.) reminds me of gaming PCs with stupid LEDs on anything starting with RAM and ending with videocards and PSUs. Too much LED lights make expensive things look cheap.
Logic: RGB everything
2025: McLaren’s new engine features 2 LCD screens and a separate stereo system
I’m pretty sure those aren’t LED in the engine bay but rather the turbochargers and the exhaust manifold boiling red hot.
Think this is the swap phil needs !!! He could become this…
That is a render… Photoshopped…. Not real life
the money alex would need to build this is something only bill gates has
Well, time for a heart transplant
Noooooooooo!!!!! The first new gen of McLaren without the famous 3.8L engine!
It’s almost the same engine just with 200ccm more
McLaren’s “close ups”…
Am I only one here that thinks McLaren desperately needs a GT car?
Have you ever heard of 570GT? That kinda sorta in a way is exactly a GT car…
The three-seater kinda-sorta-F1 successor will fill that role!
The thing i love is that unlike most supercar manufacturers, they actually do upsizeing
What is the point of illuminating the engine bay when you unlock the car.
You don’t need a point when you just can do it :)
