Under the ownership of Spyker, Saab is moving ahead with introducing new products developed under General Motors ownership. The 9-5 has already gone on the market, and Saab looks for sales figures of the car to accelerate for the 2011 model year as less expensive iterations are made available.

The 9-4X is where a lot of Saab's hopes in the near-future reside though. Crossovers are an extremely hot segment of the market right now, and Saab wants to join in on the action with the 9-4X.

The new crossover was introduced at the Los Angeles International Auto Show last month, and is slated to go on sale in May of next year. Today Saab announced pricing for the 9-4X, and it appears to be right in the sweet spot of the luxury crossover segment.

In addition, Saab had priced the 9-4X pretty close to the Cadillac SRX that it shares a platform with. The standard 9-4X starts at $34,205 including destination charges. The standard model is front-wheel drive and is powered by a 3.0-liter V-6 making 265 horsepower. The 9-4X Premium starts at $38,075 and retains the same engine while adding all-wheel drive.

The 9-4X Aero will dent the wallet quite a bit more, jumping up to $48,835. The 9-4X Aero swaps the 3.0-liter V-6 out for a 2.8-liter turbocharged engine making 300 horsepower and powering all four wheels.

We think the new 9-4X offers a compelling package in the segment, and something a bit different than what everyone else has. That has to count for something right? We'll see if the market agrees when the 9-4X goes on sale in May 2011.
