Introductions from the Paris Auto Show are coming fast, and Porsche has been keeping busy introducing new variants of the iconic 911.
The GTS is a new model addition that sits between the Carrera S and uplevel GT3. Of the decidedly more exclusive variety is the new Speedster, a car that pays homage to - you guessed it - the original 356 Speedster.
It doesn't come as a total surprise - back in July rumors were swirling about the car's introduction. A few key details were correct - such as the car's two seater status, open roof and raked and lowered (by 60 mm) windshield.
Behind the rear seats is a double bubble that stores the car's soft top. These details ensure the new Speedster shares its silhouette with the original 356.
Also part of the package is the body kit used on the GTS, sourced from the Carrera 4 all-wheel drive model. This is a trick Porsche has been using lately.
The car has the option of two colors: Carrara White and a unique paint color dubbed 'Pure Blue' that is exclusive to the Speedster.
The colors are used as a contrast with the tinted front lights, black headlight surrounds, black windscreen border, wheels and black stone guard on the car's rear fenders. There is also a new front fascia, side-skirts and rear apron.
Motivation is provided by Porsche's 408-horsepower flat-six, mated to the PDK dual-clutch gearbox. The 911 Speedster was developed by Porsche Exclusive, the brand's in house customization unit.
Porsche Exclusive will be celebrating its 25th anniversary next year. Most recently it has been known for the similarly limited production 911 Sport Classic.
The 911 Speedster goes on sale in the United Kingdom in January 2011, priced from £144,100 (about $225,000 USD at current exchange rates).
Porsche says owners can "explore the potential of their new car" by participating in a complimentary driving course at the Porsche Experience Center. 356 models will be produced, to commemorate the original 356 Speedster.
