Paris 2010: Jaguar C-X75 Supercar Concept

Ford's ownership of Jaguar didn't work out too well - the brand was mismanaged and saddled with retro vehicles during the Blue Oval's ownership.

Ford was in charge of development for the XF, however, and that is the car that is responsible for the brand's comeback. There is no doubt Jaguar is back on track now, having met success with the XF as well as the full-size XJ sedan.

This is clearly a formula that works in the marketplace and Jaguar is feeling proud of itself. After 75 years, it is still around - and thriving. What better way to celebrate that than with a one-off supercar concept showing off the brand's design prowess?

The Jaguar name graced a supercar in the 1990s in the form of the XJ220, and the C-X75 concept draws a bit from that. It is flowing and while incorporating a blend of elements we've come to know and love.

There is the traditional oval grille up front and stunning Jaguar haunches at the rear. This is a true supercar in the Jaguar mould - high performance with elegance.

It is an area that hasn't been oft-explored by other manufacturers, who normally focus on visual drama and outright speed. As with many concepts of today, the C-X75 is a range-extended electric vehicle.

However, as a one-off concept it utilizes turbines instead of gas engines. It sprints to 62 miles per hour in just 3.4 seconds.

Those figures come thanks to electric motors at each wheel, which are 195-horsepower units for a total of 780 horsepower and a whopping 1,187 pound-feet of torque.

Power is fed into the lithium ion battery back by two 96-horsepower turbines. It hits a top speed of 205 mph and Jaguar says it can run on batteries for 68 miles before the turbines come into extend the range to 560 miles.

The C-X75 is a nice commemoration of Jaguar's 75 years. Hopefully someday we'll see a production supercar from the company again.
