MotoGP's New Safety Car Is This Badass BMW M2
If you’re not terribly fussed with the idea of bike racing, here’s a surefire way to get you watching MotoGP: BMW’s new M2 safety car. And if you like the fact it looks particularly badass, we have good news: much of the lairy additions are M Performance parts that Joe Public can go and buy for their own M2.
The range includes a smattering of carbonfibre-reinforced plastic aero bits such as front and side sill attachments, plus rear diffuser and mirror ‘caps.’ Also on the menu is adjustable M Performance suspension - which sits the car 20mm lower - an electronically adjustable exhaust, posher brake pads and a selection of interior improvements including a new steering wheel and fancy M Performance floor mats.
There are a few things on the safety car that you can’t have on your road-going M2, however. It’s been extensively stripped out and given a roll cage, Recaro bucket seats with six-point harnesses, and a fire extinguisher.
There’s also a flipping great carbonfibre rear wing that’s not available for the road car (although M Performance will sell you a much smaller boot spoiler), prototype carbon ceramic brakes, and - of course - a rather large set of flashing LEDs on the roof and on the front bumper.
Fancy seeing this thing in action? The 2016 Grand Prix Motorcycle season starts on 20th March at Qatar.
