The Most Interesting Roads In The World
Here's an interesting tid-bit that came across my radar: National Geographic (of all people) had a nice series about great driving roads titled " National Geographic Picks the Most Interesting Roads in the World". OK, fair enough. NatGeo is all about the big journeys and the great shots.
Here's an interesting tid-bit that came across my radar: National Geographic (of all people) had a nice series about great driving roads titled " National Geographic Picks the Most Interesting Roads in the World". OK, fair enough. NatGeo is all about the big journeys and the great shots. And let's face it, the journey is sort of the whole point, especially when you're out for a drive.
So what did NatGeo have to say? Here's just the list of where they said were great drives:
Amalfi Coast, Italy Banff and Jasper, Canada Big Island, Hawaii Black Hills, South Dakota Blues Highway, Tennessee Borderlands, Texas Bourbon Trail, Kentucky Brandywine Valley, Mid-Atlantic British Columbia Cabot Trail, Canada Cape Cod, Massachusetts Cascade Lakes, Oregon Cheese Trail, Vermont Cherohala Skyway, Tennessee Cornwall, England Creole Country, Louisiana Dalton Highway, Alaska Finger Lakes Finger Lakes, New York Florida Keys Flower Route, Netherlands Forgotten Florida Ghost Towns, Colorado Hallowed Ground, Virginia Hana Highway, Hawaii Hudson Valley, New York James River, Virginia Lighthouse Coast, North Carolina Low Country, Georgia Manitoba Prairies Mississippi River, Midwest Montreal, Canada Mount Hood, Oregon Navajo Lands, Arizona New Old West, Arizona North Island, New Zealand Olympic Peninsula, Washington Ozarks, Arkansas Pacific Coast Highway, California Pioneer Trail, Nebraska Pirate Route, Jamaica Provence, France Rocky Mountains San Luis Valley, Colorado Santa Barbara Loop, California Sawtooths, Idaho Seward Highway, Alaska Shipwreck Coast, Michigan Southwest's Four Corners Wichita Wild West, Kansas
That's a pretty impressive list, anyone would have to say. 50 impressive drives to be sure ... but here's the deal: I actually know about a lot of these drives. It's just one of those happenstances of life, but I not only happened to grow up in a sportcar family, but I also happened to grow up in one of the most scenic parts of the globe, and a place that is literally crisscrossed with scores of great driving roads.
And then I moved, and I ended up taking my sports car with me ... so I can write about those too. Which is another way of saying I'll be comment on some, but not all, of these drives.
