Maybach: The Car For Rappers, Ballers And Dragons
If the Mercedes-Benz S Class just isn't luxurious, expensive or long enough for you, another arm of MB currently offer a car which might just fit the bill.
If the Mercedes-Benz S Class just isn't luxurious, expensive or long enough for you, another arm of MB currently offer a car which might just fit the bill. It's more exclusive, has a fancier badge, infinite legroom, even more lush leather and more electronics than a branch of Currys. It's the £300,000 Maybach and it has proved so popular that Mercedes are actually axing it next year.
The rappers love it as it represents 'bling' and who wouldn't want to plunge most of your hard-earned doller on your ride? The Maybach has also featured in a few music videos too; here it is in 'Hey Now (Mean Muggin)' by Xzibit with his 40 acers. Ya dig?
Jay Z and Kanye West decided to 'modify' one for their debut single together 'Otis'.
And Rick Ross not only featured flashes of Maybach in this video, the whole bloody tune is dedicated to it!
But it's not just the rappers that have a penchant for Maybach. Very successful businessmen will tell you no other car comes close including Rolls' Phantom! One big fan is the Dragon's Den star and owner of all those Ryman stationary shops, Theo Paphitis. Remember that Top Gear episode when he was "The Star In The Reasonably Priced Chevy Lacetti"? He bragged about how sitting in the back of a Maybach is just like flying first class with British Airways.
Like Jay-Z and Kanye West though, he decided his 'bach needed one important modification. It wasn't along the lines of cutting into bits and turning into a rocket with tyres though. Instead he decided to wrap it chrome-style and give it the name 'Cromomobile'. And then proceeded to show it off to the world on Twitter yesterday.
Despite the very distinctive chrome wrap (which Car Throttle regulars will know I'm not the biggest fan of) he appears to have made no extra modifications. There are no flashy alloys to go with the new paint job which is actually a wise move in theory since the ride comfort would be spoiled if he did that. No extra modifications whatsoever... oh, hang on. I've just seen the vanity plate on the front. Ugh.
So, well done Mr Paphitis on choosing another victim of the chrome wrap to join Justin Bieber's Fisker Karma, which has led me to pose our question of the week. Can you think of any weirder car to receive the extremely shiny treatment? Answers below or on the FB and Twitter pages.
