Is It Time For M Division Supercar Like SLS AMG?

There's a bit of a dispute going on between BMW and it's performance subsidiary. The performance arm are eager to build their own bespoke car, just like AMG did not so long ago with the SLS. Annoyingly, BMW say that the idea may not make the firm that much money.
M are convinced they have what it takes to take on the SLS. BMW's head of product development, Albert Biermann told Inside Line, "From an engineering perspective, we have the skills and we'd love to do it. We've discussed it several times but we've never been able to make the business case. Everything we do has to make money."
I would love to see a bespoke M car as well. Imagine, a supercar with a M Division V8 or V10, a great chassis and insane bodywork. I'm drooling at the thought! Not just an SLS rival but a great Audi R8 alternative too.
The idea of a bespoke car isn't the only dispute between BMW and M. Biermann told Autocar that the division also want to put M technology on the E89 Z4. "There are days when it hurts not to have one but there was no business case at the time when the decision was taken. We are trying to make a case but there are so many factors to consider.”
I can understand why BMW would say no to a new Z4M because there's already a small M car on sale in the form of the 1 series coupe which makes a Z4M seem a little pointless. Mind you, some might feel that it would make a good SLK 55 or TT RS rival.
As for M's bespoke motor, the SLS was a huge success and I recon M could pull off the same trick. At the Frankfurt Motor Show earlier this year though, BMW was showing off the new i8 plug-in hybrid supercar concept expected to be on sale from 2014 which is possibly why BMW see no purpose for a bespoke M car. While the i8 certainly has the looks, I'd rather have it covered in M technology.
