Remember the GTA Supercar? Well it's been launched today at an event in Valencia, Spain. The name has been announced also; the new supercar is dubbed Spano. Let's take a look!
Spano, the "The Spanish Supersportscar" according to GTA Motors. Nice? No doubt. As expected, it looks very similar to the renderings released by the company a under a month ago. The design is clean and modern, with a sweeping bodyline flowing to the rear engine area. The Spano doesn't look particularly groundbreaking, but then again, we should never have expected it to be.
Honestly, it's a tough job designing a unique mid-engined vehicle without it being ugly. There is a certain set of factors; engine placement, need for aerodynamics, etc that all yield for a similar shape. I certainly wouldn't mistake the car for anything else on the road though. So from the front, the Spano looks good in a bland sort of way. The rear? Eh, not so much.
It's not horrible, but definitely not what I'd describe as naturally good looking. Something about it seems akward to me. Those vents lower fascia vents look cheesy too. What's with the covered rear glass area too? I think it looks bad but I've seen live pictures of the car without that there so I'm not sure whether or not it's standard on the car.
We'll have to see; in fact for the rear end I'd definitely have to see more pictures to make a really good judgement. There is only 2 real pictures of the rear that I have seen. Need some more, GTA Motors!
Power for the Spano is provided by Dodge, supposedly a 780 horsepower 8.3-liter V10 unit from the Viper. GTA Motors plans to produce only 99 models of the Spano supercar, each at $670,000 (!) apiece. Wow, that is an extremely high number. I expected something more in Ferrari F430 territory. The company GTA Motors does plan an entire line of models going forward, so it's possible we'll see something like that in the future.
It'll will be very interesting to see if the car is able to hit it's 99 unit mark with such a high pricetag. I doubt it will be an easy ride. It certainly doesn't seem like a $670,000 supercar to me, but only time will tell what the market thinks.
