The annual SEMA show will be happening within weeks in Las Vegas, and Hyundai seems to be working with aftermarket tuning giant GReddy for a seriously pumped up version of the company's Genesis coupe. The Genesis has already gotten a lot of notice by the street tuner crowd, starting from when it was a concept. It looks like things are starting to get real serious.

Dubbed the "GReddy X Gen Street Genesis Coupe" Hyundai and GReddy are setting up a customized version of the entry-level Genesis featuring the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. GReddy is aiming to bump up the output from 210HP and 223 lb-ft of torque to 350HP and 320 lb-ft and knock the 0-60 mph time to under six seconds.

GReddy has worked over the Genesis Coupe's mechanicals to the tune of an upgraded turbo, and a larger front-mounted intercooler kit. Exhaust-wise, they have added a SE Spectrum Elite cat-back exhaust system and a MX racing downpipe. Naturally, they couldn't leave the suspension alone, and that now features Type-S fully adjustable coil-over suspension, and the brakes are now six-piston front and four-piston rear brake calipers and.

Of course, they couldn't leave the styling alone, so GReddy added a lip spoiler, the now required carbon fiber hood, a rear wing, and put Volk Racing G2 alloy wheels and Toyo performance tires in the Hyundai's wheel wells. Oh, and a graphics kit too. On the inside there's a set of Sparco racing seats, modified gauges, a boost controller and a turbo timer as well as a remote switching system.

All of these parts for the Genesis Coupe show car are planned to be released as a production kit according to GReddy, but that only makes sense. That's what SEMA is there for, and GReddy isn't in the business of just making show cars. This also points to a growing acceptance of "other than Japanese" cars into the tuner world.

For a while, it seemed to be "Japan Only", and brands like Hyundai were openly scoffed at (wasn't there a joke about them in one of the Fast & Furious movies?). But it seems the Genesis has rearranged a lot of peoples thinking. An inexpensive entry fee, rear-wheel drive and the opportunity to customize has a habit of doing that.
