Ever heard of Wiesmann? If you haven't, you've been missing out on the company's interesting retro creations. They've been busy lately, bringing out 3 new special editions in celebration of the company's 20th Anniversary.

I'm still trying to make sense out of the various releases by the company but apparently there is 3 new special edition commemorative models.

They include a higher performance MF5 (versus MF4), M4-S(port) and a new MF4 Roadster (in addition to the V6 powered MF3 Roadster). Also, a MF4-S will be coming as well later down the line. Got that?

It's clear the Wiesmann cars are unique creations in a class by themself. Definitely retro, but not referencing any specific model. They just capture the spirit of classic roadsters without linking to any one in particular. Pretty neat if you ask me!

The special editions will be built in limited runs, with the MF4 GT-S at 30 copies, and the MF4 Roadster and MF5 coming in at 20 copies. The cars will be available in three different color packages: Sporty, Elegant and Style.

Those opting for the "Sporty" trim (shown in the above pictures) will get an deep pian0-black paint and matching red and black interior coloring.

"Elegant" offers a blue leather interior and the amazing "Alubeam" paint found on Mercedes showcars and just recently on a production Mercedes model, the 40th Anniversary CL65 AMG.  It's almost like spraying on metal. Pretty interesting stuff.

The other option, shown above on the Wiesmann MF5, is called "Style". White matt paint and a black/white interior color combination are the colors available on this style (hehe).

The cars are further differentiated from their common brethren (all 250 per year of them) by a engraved plaque on the center console with the owners name, production number and Wiesmann brother signatures. In addition, there is unique seat embroidery and instrumentation.

Wiesmann was founded in 1985 in Dülmen, Germany to manufacture custom hard-tops for convertibles, something the company continues to do. It's unclear where they start counting from (the first roadster rolled out of the factory in 1993) but hey, what do I know?

Underneath, each of the Wiesmann cars (special edition or not) are fully modern, powered by BMW inline-6 or V8 engines that in the case of these special editions, make increased power.

Wiesmann plans for an increase in production capacity this year from 250 to 350 units as well as production RHD models (each Wiesmann to this point has been LHD). Rumor has it they were considering entry to the United States as well in 2010 but there hasn't been any news since regarding that.

Wiesmann hasn't had any trouble selling these vehicles so if you're interested you better hurry! It's great to see the specialty manufacturer niche alive and well. Long live individuality!
