Cosworth To Do Up Subaru Impreza WRX STI?

What's this? Sure, it's a rumor, and only a rumor of a one-off, but oo-baby. Cosworth, yes THAT Cosworth, is having a go at the latest version of Subaru's fantastic WRX STI.

What's this? Sure, it's a rumor, and only a rumor of a one-off, but oo-baby. Cosworth, yes THAT Cosworth, is having a go at the latest version of Subaru's fantastic WRX STI. Autocar describes the car (would that be a Cosworth Subaru Impreza WRX STI or a Subaru Impreza WRX STI Cosworth?) as a "one-off, special project," but who cares!

Details are, sadly, quite scant at this moment in time, especially concerning such things as specifications and pricing (yes, they are going to sell it, if rumors hold). But all the truth will out and become available when closer to the car's on sale date in March of this year.

The Cossy stroked Impreza WRX STI "will raise the bar for all-wheel-drive, high-performance motoring," according to a Cosworth spokesperson. Yeah, like he was going to say Cosworth will just be adding a stripe kit and a J.C. Whitney wing out the back.

And this all fits. Sure, sure, Cosworth was the firms that built the first "modern" F1 engine for Collin Champan back in the 1960s, as well as some really impressive mills for a whole slew of Indy winners, but Cosworth also has an impressive rally history that they can boast about as well.

Remember the Ford RS200? Yeah, Cosworth. And there were a few more WRC-type rides in there too, but not as radical as the RS200. So my questions become much more pragmatic. What does this all mean? Is this just the first test shot of a Cossy/Subie partnership before both of them get back into rallying? Or is this just the first test shot of a Cossy/Subie partnership before both of them start making aftermarket parts and enter into a road car partnership?

Either way, I can't wait to see what Cosworth cooks up this time.
