A Canadian 550-hp AWD Volkswagen Scirocco Eh?

I like Canada. I went to college right across the border, and Canadians always struck me as a very nice bunch of people. Even when they get a little nuts, they seem to do it in interesting ways. Take, for example, this Volkswagen Scirocco that a British Columbia tuning firm got their hands on.

I like Canada. I went to college right across the border, and Canadians always struck me as a very nice bunch of people. Even when they get a little nuts, they seem to do it in interesting ways. Take, for example, this Volkswagen Scirocco that a British Columbia tuning firm got their hands on. Bottom line: 550-hp, all wheel drive and a whole lot of Loonies.

150-thousand Loonies to be exact. That's 150-thousand dollars, Canadian (the Loonie being the nickname for their one dollar coin). Yeah, that's a lot of money, but we're also talking a whole lot of car here. Bud sadly, sort of like over the counter codeine, this 550-hp AWD Volkswagen Scirocco will be available in Canada only.

Because, of course, sadly, the Volkswagen Scirocco in any form is not being imported into America. Why Volkswagen? Why, why, why? Yeah, yeah ... the GTI two door, and the small market for two door hatchbacks and yadda yadda yadda ... just empty words pal. Bring it!

Anywho, Canadian tuning firm HPA has been in the vanguard of VW and Audi modifications for quite a while now, and they somehow made a deal with Volkswagen import a handful of Sciroccos into British Colombia each year. They also decided not to leave well enough alone, and decided to really mod the be-jeebers out of them.

It would seem that the stock Scirocco tops out in R trim with a 265-horsepower 2.0-liter TSI four-cylinder, is not enough for the B.C. Canucks. So HPA decided to drop in a built up 3.2-liter V6 featuring a pair of Garrett H25 turbochargers and a nice with all-wheel drive system and call their creation the FT565.

The FT565, in stage one trim, is good enough for 550 hp and 500 pound-feet of torque. ee-YOW! Want more, then opt for the stage 2 variant. The Stage 2 package get you 600 lb-ft of torque and the 0-60 time drops to an astonishing 3.4 seconds, and quarter-mile times come in at 11.3 seconds. HPA claims the top speed is 200 mph.

HPA has also done away with the stock brakes, swapping them out for 14-inch, eight-piston stoppers up front and 13-inchers out the back. HPA also gives you 19-inch aluminum BBS wheels wrapped in Dunlop SP Sport Maxx tires.

HPA only plans to build 10 FT565 Sciroccos each year, and the cost will be $150,000 a per. Yet another reason to dislike Canada's stringent immigration policies.
