BMW-Audi Ad Duel Continues - In Hong Kong

How you could you miss that advertisement? Well, if you're there you certainly couldn't. If you'll remember last April, a BMW-Audi advertising war played out on the billboards of Santa Monica, California. Audi, launching the new A4, put a billboard up that said "Your move, BMW."

In a stroke of genius, a local BMW dealer secured an advertisement on a billboard across the street, in the same sightline as the Audi ad. It read simply, "Checkmate."

Audi and BMW have gone back and forth in advertisements, and it is expected to continue as the competition for the world's top luxury sales spot gets tougher. BMW has fired the latest salvo with this brilliant advertising placement.

This one doesn't say a word about Audi - and it doesn't have to. The gigantic ad is placed above an Audi dealership. Oh, the irony. Audi comes across as the upstart challenger in all these advertisements - BMW has been getting the last word in each skirmish.

Of course, we are willing spectators - time for some excitement in advertising. Lets see if Audi responds to this one! Meanwhile, check out the one that played out on TV, spurred on by Audi's "Friendly Competition" spot.
