BMW Alpina B7 Coming to the U.S
BMW has been extending the M sports lineup every which way recently, extending it to SUVs with the X5 M and X6M, as well as working on a 1-Series M to cover the lower end.
BMW has been extending the M sports lineup every which way recently, extending it to SUVs with the X5 M and X6M, as well as working on a 1-Series M to cover the lower end.
One model that BMW has repeatedly denied getting a M trim level is the 7-Series. That doesn't stop them from giving it a dose of sportiness, with the 7-Series M Sport, and now the Alpina B7.
Alpina is a German tuning company that has a long history with BMW vehicles, but primarily focusing its efforts in Europe.
The modifications to the Alpina B7 start- where else? - in the engine compartment, with a boost of 100 horsepower, taking the 4.4-liter twin turbocharged V-8 to 500 hp, from the already-impressive 400 hp standard figure. Coupled with 514 pound feet of torque, 4.5 seconds is all it takes in the dash to 60 mph.
Other changes are the requisite bodywork modifications like a front air dam and rear spoiler that reduce lift in the front by 30% and in the rear by 15%.
There is also 21-inch, 20-spoke Alpina wheels with Michelin PS2 tires, and inside there is upgraded LAVALINA (whatever that is) leather and Myrtle Burl wood, found only on the West Coast of the United States. The Alpina B7 will be be available in the standard and extended wheelbase versions. No word on pricing yet, but we'd guess higher rather than lower. If you're interested, it goes on sale this Spring.
