AVUS Performance Aims To Make The Ultimate Audi TT RS

Audi's TT is an interesting car. A lot of gearheads have wanted to like it, but a lot of them see it as being more of a fashion statement that a real performer. I guess you could say that in cases like this, that is why aftermarket-tuning houses exist.

Audi's TT is an interesting car. A lot of gearheads have wanted to like it, but a lot of them see it as being more of a fashion statement that a real performer. I guess you could say that in cases like this, that is why aftermarket-tuning houses exist. And in the case of the latest generation Audi TT we have here, the tuning house in question is a German concern called AVUS, and for the TT, they have a better idea.

The bottom line here is 450 HP. Simply getting that kind of power output into any car is bound to make it "better" making it usable and more drivable in a day to day sense is another matter entirely.

Officially, AVUS has named their new ride the Audi TT RS "Ur Quattro". This name is derived from the legendary, original Audi Quattro coupe WRC car of the late 1980s. In addition to the name AVUS (all caps, for some inexplicable reason) has bumped up the stock 2.5-liter turbocharged inline-five by 110 horsepower and 140 lb-ft of torque by modifying the turbo, reprogramming the ECU and adding a new exhaust system. Meaning that the final figures are 450HP of power and 472 lb-ft. of torque.

Price? AVUS didn't mention what the engine mods will run you, but as with all things of this nature, don't expect it to come cheap. AVUS did let us know just how much quicker the car is though. Zero to 60 mph times are dropped from the factory's 4.6-second figure for the stock TT RS to 3.8 seconds for the TT RS "Ur Quattro" and top speed is goes up from 174mph to 194mph.

Naturally, and thankfully, AVUS has also worked over the suspension, adding adjustable coil-over shocks that lower the ride height and help the RS handle the corners.

The TT-RS' exterior has been given the now ubiquitous flat-black finish, which is a vinyl wrap, rather than paint (and boy do I find that annoying). There's also a set of 20-inch Sportec Mono alloy wheels in a contrasting gloss black finish wrapped in 255/30/20 Hankook S1 Evo tires.

On the inside, you can have AVUS add a pair of Recaro bucket seats and various unspecified bits and bobs for the interior.

If you're looking for something more from Audi's TT, this just might be it.
