So I was thinking of getting an Audi TT Mk1 for my first car, can anyone think of reasons why this should not happen?

Well if you’re British you probably won’t get insured but part from that they’re fun little cars. They definitely got better with age but the Mk1’s are cheap so why the hell not!

I looked up the insurance for one and its about the same as most other things i was looking at. An toyota mr2 (mk3) would be £2300 same as the TT and a VW Golf.

They’re nice cars. The only killer will be insurance and tax. If you have the dosh for it, then go ahead!

Thanks, Yea i spent long time looking up insurance for tones of “first time cars” and it really is about the same as most others, if not only a couple hundred more. The tax for it is about £490 i believe but I dont know the normal for tax costs are so..

Because I don’t like the looks of the ass of the Mk1 :P

EDIT: Added “off the” before Mk1 :D

Agreed the newer models do look a lot better but they are mostly 2ltr engines and are subsequently impossible to insure for a first time car.

I say go for it but you need to get one with a duck tail because the normal once would spin out at high speed so they got recalled got a duck tail and stability control

Interesting, I had not heard about this problem. Thanks for the heads up, was this across all the Mk1s?

I’m 21 and have a MK1 Audi TT 225 Roadster as my first car. The road tax due to emissions actually falls into the £400+ category but was one of few cars the UK government granted an exception for so it’s £265. My insurance with 0 years of my own no claims but after 3 years since I passed (I was on another policy on a Ford Fiesta) was £750 with Admiral last year and looks like going down to about £450 this year. They’re great cars and go like hell for the money. If you’re struggling to get insured then consider the 180bhp model. Make sure you have a look on TTForum aswell.

Thats great news, was looking to find someone who had one as their first. Unfortunately due to family circumstances I wont have the option to be insured on another car, but i’m relived to hear that it is a good first car.

ok I don’t understand, British teens always complain about high insurance costs, 3 years no accidents I’m paying 330$ a month for a Kia sedan in Toronro, Canada

Ahh, yea that’s the sort of cost I thought it’d be like for another car. Thanks for that :)
