First car. Tempted to buy a Nissan Pulsar GTi-R

So now that I’m old enough to drive a car, I started looking at cars I could possibly buy, that are not too expensive, look nice and have mods for them. Since the nissan pulsar GTi-R has the SR20DET engine, I guess that it would not be too hard to find mods for the engine and that parts are not going to be too expensive. I’m from Canada and from what I know, the only way we could get them here, in Canada, was to import them. So getting parts like fenders and stuff like that might be expensive. But other than that, I can’t think of any other downside. It’s pretty big, has a great engine, looks really cool and is quite unique. It also has AWD and here, with the snow and stuff, it will be quite useful. What do you guys think?

You do realise that insurance will be twice the price of the car, don’t you?

That is true, I should get more information about the insurance cost. But why would the insurance be that expensive? It’s just an old hatchback with a small I4 engine.

My friend tried to insurance a pulsar in the uk when he was 20 and the cheapest he got was 4k and that was from a specialist. They are way to fast for a first car

If you can find a standard one in decent condition then please don’t crash it if you get insured on it.
If it is a modified one, then make sure the gearbox and transfer box are in good condition as they are a weak point once the power is upped. The rear arches rot like it’s a sport and the underside can rot as well. Parts are getting scarce and therefore more expensive.
Basically, it’s a really bad idea for a first car.
