Actually a properly made tailpipe can add bhp because of the design aiding gas extraction! do you guys really think the big exhausts on Scoobys and Evos etc are just for looks lol it is also much better to buy an aftermarket because they are usually stainless steel which in cars like mine Are needed because they run rich especially without a cat so the stock exhaust system decays quicker stainless steel does not.

Exhaust tips will give your truck a tuner sound, especially if you install a tip with a rolled edge. There are a few other factors that go into the sound of an individual engine besides just a muffler. … Larger diameter exhaust tubing will make a noticeable difference and will add a performance tone.

Okay thanks, I mostly see useless exhaust tips and think it’s just for looks but thanks for the extra info :D

Some exauat tips improve perfomance so juat looks but they alao help not to get pulled over and ticketed bye the police

tips don’t matter unless they are blocking the exhaust gasses way.

Some exhaust tips are made to silence the sound of your car. (These are usually really small or have something that interrupts the flow of the smoke causing it to not he as loud).

Changing the exhaust tips themselves will only benefit athstetics, as pointed out by many knowledgeable CTzens. However a new muffler will affect sound (axleback). And a full exhaust system either a Catback (NA cars), or a turbo back (turbo cars), will affect preformance. Wider piping generally equals more power. However too wide on NA cars ends up in no back-pressure and loss of torque. Turbo cars work best with as little back-pressire as possible! I went with a catback on my car, and all is well (only been pulled over once for my illegally modified exhaust!)

Basically correct, but NA cars also don’t want back pressure. Back pressure in itself is always bad. The reason why wider piping hurts low rpm performance is because wider pipe slows down the gases (same happens in intake). The reason is because more energy of the gas is wasted on expanding when entering the pipe which then means less speed for the gas, which means less efficient exhaust. It does allow more flow though, which is the reason why high power engines uses wider pipe. Narrower pipe on the other hand allows for higher speed for lower amount of gas giving higher efficiency on smaller engines and low rpm. But it doesn’t allow high enough flow for big power.

Well that’s what I’ve heard and read, I’m not an engineer (yet) so you may wanna check from google or something what I just wrote :)
