OK, so we’ve pretty much already seen this car in the form of a development prototype late last year and a ‘design concept’ even longer ago than that, but this is it: the final production version of the McLaren P1 GTR.

Rather striking, isn’t it? If you weren’t distracted by the huge front splitter and the positively pram-like rear spoiler, your eyes will have no doubt been drawn to the yellow and green colour scheme worn by this example, which will be displayed at the Geneva motor show next Month. It’s inspired by the Harrods-liveried F1 GTR which finished third at the 1995 24 Hours of Le Mans.

But let’s not get caught up in history, as this P1 GTR is one serious piece of kit that demands your attention. The extensive aero package generates 660kg of downforce at 150mph - an increase of 10 per cent over the bog standard P1 - while the tweaked 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 and electric motor now kick out a combined 986bhp to the rear wheels. The track is now 80mm wider, and the centre-locking alloy wheels shod in grippy Pirelli slick tyres.

As reported before, the P1 GTR carries a rather substantial price tag: £1.98 million. There’s no word on a specific production number, but only P1 road car owners will be eligible to purchase the GTR. As there are only 375 P1 road cars, and many of the owners will find their regular P1 to be rather hardcore enough already, the GTR will remain a very rare beast.
