The Toyota GT86 Has A New Face And Freshened Up Suspension

It’s facelift time for the Toyota GT86, and unlike a lot of modern mid-life refreshes, the rear-wheel drive sports car’s changes are actually relatively significant. We have a whole new front bumper featuring a much larger intake, a new set of LED headlights and a new alloy wheel design.

The chassis has been lightly fettled too, with retuned shock absorbers and revised spring rates. The interior gets new leather/Alcantara upholstery and soft-touch suede door trims, or new cloth upholstery with contrasting silver stitching depending on what you spec. Not that we know what any of that looks like, as interior images haven’t been revealed just yet.

The 2.0-litre, naturally-aspirated flat-four remains the same, which means 197bhp and 151lb ft at your disposal. The US-spec version however - which will be called the Toyota 86 - does get a cheeky 5bhp and 5lb ft boost.

The car will make its public debut at the New York Auto Show, and is expected to go on sale later this year.

What do you think of the GT86’s new look?

200bhp is a damn lot. First cars in my friends’ circle is like ranging from 90-130bhp. But diesel torque.

well it is a facelift so no powetrain revision usually. However Like every big automotive group, they could afford to have 2-3 version of this car (relative to engine). And It will STILL be affordable Fun, in the entry level version, which it will be this…Not everyone wants to break the law to modify it…

“does get a cheeky 5bhp and 5lb ft boost.” I read this the first time as it would be getting 5 pounds of boost as in turbocharged… then I reread it, and i crie evritiem
