It’s facelift time for the Toyota GT86, and unlike a lot of modern mid-life refreshes, the rear-wheel drive sports car’s changes are actually relatively significant. We have a whole new front bumper featuring a much larger intake, a new set of LED headlights and a new alloy wheel design.

The chassis has been lightly fettled too, with retuned shock absorbers and revised spring rates. The interior gets new leather/Alcantara upholstery and soft-touch suede door trims, or new cloth upholstery with contrasting silver stitching depending on what you spec. Not that we know what any of that looks like, as interior images haven’t been revealed just yet.

The 2.0-litre, naturally-aspirated flat-four remains the same, which means 197bhp and 151lb ft at your disposal. The US-spec version however - which will be called the Toyota 86 - does get a cheeky 5bhp and 5lb ft boost.

The car will make its public debut at the New York Auto Show, and is expected to go on sale later this year.

What do you think of the GT86’s new look?

Just take the headlight, tailight and wheels fit them on the current gt86/ fr-s and you have a up to date and good looking car for years to come until they make a turbo version

So with the subaru bumper and the fake vents it’s even closer to the subaru. Why?

I`m happy with my 2013. I like the look better. But an alcantara wheel would be freaking awesome… I also rather stay with cloth seats.

The front kinda looks like the current car got punched in the mouth. Not a fan. (Though the rest of the car looks fine). Actually, it kinda reminds me of the ‘Thatcher Effect’!

I like all the changes except the new front bumper cover. If I had an old 86 I’d be looking at changing out my lights for sure.
