The Lamborghini Urus Will Spawn A Hybrid Version

A plug-in hybrid option is nailed-on for the Urus, with the Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid donating the power unit and up to 700bhp on the cards
The Lamborghini Urus Will Spawn A Hybrid Version

In the turbulent air behind the arrival of the 641bhp Lamborghini Urus, we can now tell you that there’s a plug-in hybrid on the way, too.

It would use the same V8-based setup as the Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid. The Porsche is good for 671bhp and 627lb ft – that’s 30bhp more than, but coincidentally (or perhaps not) the exact same torque output as the non-hybrid Urus. In the Urus, the hybrid should nudge 700bhp.

Auto Express, which has broken the news after speaking to Lamborghini personnel at the Urus’ launch, also says the extra torque of an electric motor would cut as much as half a second off the super-SUV’s 0-62mph sprint time, which is already a pretty nippy 3.6 seconds. We find that one tough to believe, but it’s theoretically possible. A few tenths’ reduction is our prediction.

The plug-in car’s purpose would be to duck beneath the heavy taxation in vast markets like China. Emissions would drop to 70g/km or so, meaning the Urus plug-in would escape the same financial beatings as its sibling. An electric driving range of about 30 miles is expected, but in the real world it’s likely to be less.

Probably trying to design the car with only a ruler and with a square (that’s what Google Translate gives me for “équerre”, which is that weird triangle you used for trigonometry).

All these vents and slats in the multi-layer front grille… There is so much happening in the front bumper that you can film an entire game of thrones season about it

So, now Lamborghini’s hybrid SUV will become as powerful as the base version of their flagship V12 supercar. Times have definitely changed.
