The Acura EV Concept Is The NSX's Pikes Peak-Bashing Electric Cousin

Honda will run this "NSX-Inspired" all-wheel drive electric monster at the 2016 Pikes Peak International Hillclimb. Looks mean, no?

Remember when an ‘electric vehicle’ meant a glorified milk float with all the charisma and style of a washing machine? How times change. On the road we have the products of Tesla, the prospect of Faraday Future joining the fray on the horizon, and we have incredibly exciting electric cars bringing their own near-silent deliveries of badassery to the world of motorsport. Case in point? This angry little devil from Honda.

It’s rather unimaginatively called the ‘Acura EV Concept’, and you’ll have probably noticed it looks like an NSX. Don’t be fooled though: that’s just the bodywork. Underneath all that lies an evolution of the CR-Z electric vehicle Honda campaigned at Pikes Peak last year, with a pair of motors at either end and clever torque vectoring tech.

What’s particularly interesting is this NSX-lookalike is running three times the power of the old CR-Z EV. So it’ll be fast, then…

Want to see this ball of EV fury in action? The Pikes Peak International Hillclimb takes place this weekend.

woo first comment, i think it will be interesting to see the sort of power to weight output of the cars especially not having the weight in the front

Honestly I think Honda should release a production version of this car

I am guessing this thing will do quite good since electric vehicles aren’t affected by the altitude as much as combustion engines.

Last year an ICE was beaten by Rhys Millen and ‘Monster’ Tajima in their electric cars. It’ll probably be the same story next week

Electric cars have no soul though.

Techincally, that’s a Honda, so then yes, it does fit in a Honda.

Basically this will go around Pikes Peak like a Lancia Delta while sounding like a Rolls-Royce

Every year I forget about Pikes Peak climb and every year I realise that it exists just before it takes place and get super exited
I think it deserves much more attention, manufacturers like Honda build pretty amazing pieces of machinery for it and watching onboards is truly fascinating and scary at the same time

It definitely does deserve more attention, I live in Colorado but I’ve never had the time to go up and watch it

I’m going this year, I’m finally old enough to drive myself up there, my parents didn’t want to go in previous years, but now I can go without them. I’ll probably hang out at the start, least chance of altitude sickness
