The new Chevy Camaro is a 650bhp V8 monster with one hell of a manual gearbox. Here are the details...
The 2017 Camaro ZL1 Hits 60mph In First Gear

With development of the new Camaro ZL1 nearing its end, Chevrolet has announced some serious performance stats that will send reverberations through the muscle car world.

Producing 650bhp and a stupendous amount of torque, Chevy has proclaimed that the ZL1 can reach 60mph using just first gear in the six-speed manual option. A 10-speed automatic gearbox is available but we much prefer the thought of taking the Dodge Viper on at its own game.

The 2017 Camaro ZL1 Hits 60mph In First Gear

Considering that the previous generation car made the sprint to 60mph in four seconds with a meagre 580bhp and 100kg extra weight, the brand new car should dip well into the three-second club. Despite the launch of the more-powerful Ford Mustang GT500 being on the horizon, the Camaro will be another addition to the influx of super-muscle cars in the current market.

This is hardly news. It’s the same Tremec TR-6060 as in the 2013 Shelby GT500 which could also hot 60 MPH in 1st gear

Im pretty sure the hellcat,gt500,and zl1 all use the TR-6060. The lower end models like the gt , ss , and srt just use the t56.

To be honest, having long gearing isn’t much fun on the road. - By the time you’ve redlined it in 2nd and 3rd, you’d be in licence-losing or prison territory in most countries!

Spot on. Thats why on the street I love hot hatches. I had a motorcycle that did 82mph in 1st. 110mph in 2nd 135mph in 3rd. You just wanna here the engine and here it scream. Id rather have a 10 speed manual and skip gears when i want for the camaro

Its why I love my Mustang’s gear ratios so much.

1st is just under 40. 2nd is 62, third is 80. Its perfect for on-ramp pulls.

Well having short gearing in a car like that will just absolutely roast your tires and spin with the tiniest inputs of throttle. Which also isn’t much fun on the road nor good for your license.

You think a 650 HP supercharged 6.2 V8 should have shorter gearing?

Sounds like the new zl1 will be miles ahead in performance above the hellcat. Yes it has 57 less horsepower but it has the same torque and it weighs in at 600lbs less and even has a lower sticker price by $5k .

You would be easily slipping into hot water by the end of 2nd. Where is the fun in that? On the street Id rather have a 10 speed manual and skip gears when i want for the camaro if we must play the fuel economy game.
