Suzuki GB Has Taken 3 Years' Worth Of New Jimny Interest In 3 Months

The outgoing Jimny sold at a rate of around 1000 units a year in the UK, but the level of interest in the new one is triple that, just three months after the car was revealed

Suzuki GB has already received three years’ worth of enquiries about the new Jimny – and it doesn’t even go on sale until January.

Demand for the dinky new off-roader is so high that for the first time Suzuki GB has been forced to set up a dedicated web page allowing potential buyers to register their interest – and hopefully get themselves higher on the waiting list.

At the time of writing over 3000 people had done just that. Suzuki GB traditionally sells around 1000 Jimnys per year and, with another three months to go before the car actually reaches showrooms, the clamour for a piece of the new Jimny action is only going to get louder.

The situation is said to be similar across Europe. Germany, whose buyers might relate especially closely to the Jimny’s mini-G-Wagen styling, is another market pressuring Japan for greater supply.

Moreover, its recent three-star Euro NCAP crash test result doesn’t seem to have deterred many people.

A spokesperson confirmed that special measures have been taken to maximise stock flow to dealers. Firstly, the normal allocation to the UK press fleet has been trimmed in order to get more cars to customers. Like many brands Suzuki also operates an internal finance scheme for its staff, through which they can lease new models, but most company staff won’t be able to access the Jimny until supply catches up with demand.

It’s not thought that the new car’s unexpected popularity will impact used Jimny values too much. The 2019 model’s target audience is said to be much younger, and judging by the reaction on CT, we’re not going to argue with that.

i would assume moderately well until consumer reports start pulling safety issues out of their ass like what happened with the vitara a couple of decades ago
