The Difference Between the New McLarens!

Are you having problems differentiating between McLarens? Well, you’ve come to the right place! (Or post)
In this blog post, I will be explaining to you the key differences between these McLarens: 540C, 570S, 675LT, 650S, and last but not least, the MP4-12C. Enjoy!

First: The 540C and The 570S

The two ‘competitors’ are none other than the 540C and 570S.

STYLING:
From an aesthetic point of view, the differences between the two are very tricky – pretty much impossible, in fact – to spot. It’s easier to understand if you don’t think of the 540C and 570S as two different cars but, instead, two models from the same range.

As a result, aside from a new alloy wheel design (measuring 19 inches at the front and 20 at the rear) the pair look pretty much identical. That means you get the same family ‘face’ at the front, the thin LED strip of tail lights at the back, and an awesome-looking pair of ‘swan-wing’ doors in between.

ENGINE:
The clue to the biggest difference between the 540C and its bigger brother comes in their names. While both use the same 3.8-litre, twin-turbo V8 petrol, the 540C’s unit offers 533hp (540PS), while the 570S produces… Yep, 562hp (570PS).

DIFFERENCE:
Now, most of you are looking for the MAIN difference between the two. Which brings me to saying this, try to find the difference between the two in this picture:

Did you spot the difference yet? If you keep a close eye, then you’ll be able to.
If you haven’t found it yet, I’ll show you in this picture:

Second: The 650S and The 675LT

The next on the list, are the 650S, and 675LT.

STYLING:
Right away, it is very easy to spot the differences between the two, as the 675LT has an extended front splitter, and to add an extra sense of ‘air flow’, McLaren have added canards on either side of the vehicle.

ENGINE:
The younger brother (675LT) shares the same 3.8L Twin Turbo V8 petrol, as its older brother (650S), but the 675LT produces more power, “How much?” you may be asking? Well, a quite scary number. 666HP (675PS), scary isn’t it? While the older bro’ produces an amazing 641HP, which, no joke, is REALLY fast!

WHAT ABOUT THE REAR BUMPER?
Okay, say you’re in this situation, you spot what you think, is a 675LT, but you are not sure, here is a picture that well help you make sure, what you spotted, IS a 675LT:

The Main Differences of the Rear are Circled for You.

And Finally: The 650S and The MP4-12C

Now, the last on my list, the 650S, and the MP4-12C.

STYLING:
It’s super easy to tell the difference in the looks of both of these beauties, as the front bumper is totally different (as you can tell right away by looking at the two cars). So it shouldn’t be too hard to differentiate. The rear bumper, well that’s a very easy one, as the 650S has Carbon Fiber, unlike the MP4-12C.

ENGINE:
Both cars share the same 3.8L Twin Turbo V8 petrol, but, the difference is power. The 650S produces an 641HP (650PS), with the older brother, producing 616HP (625PS).

Now, to answer a important question, asked by none other, then CTzen, JustAnotherEvoFan,

Yes, the holy question on almost everyone’s mind (admit it). Don’t worry, as I am here to help and tell you.

Let’s start with the 540C.
540 from the amount of Pferdestärke (Horse Power in German), and the ‘C’ in 540C, apparently stands for ‘Club’.

Next, The 570S
570 from the amount of Horse Power, and the ‘S’ in 570S, stands for ‘Sport’.

Next, The 675LT
675 from the amount of Horse Power, and the ‘LT’ in 675LT, stands for ‘Long Tail’.

Next, The 650S
650 from the amount of Horse Power, and the ‘S’ in 650S, stands for ‘Sport’, same as the 570S.

Last but not Least, The MP4-12C
The name’s former prefix ‘MP4’ has been the chassis designation for all McLaren Formula 1 cars since 1981. Since 1997, ‘MP4’ has stood for McLaren Project 4 (from 1981 to 1996, the “M” stood for Marlboro, McLaren’s title sponsor), resulting from the merger of Ron Dennis’ Project 4 organisation with McLaren. The ‘12’ refers to McLaren’s internal Vehicle Performance Index through which it rates key performance criteria both for competitors and for its own cars. The criteria combine power, weight, emissions, and aerodynamic efficiency. The coalition of all these values delivers an overall performance index that has been used as a benchmark throughout the car’s development. The ‘C’ refers to Carbon, highlighting the application of carbon fibre technology to the future range of McLaren sports cars.
MP4-12C shares its name with the MP4/12Formula 1 car that raced in the 1997 season.

You have reached the end of this blog post, I hope you liked it, and that I have helped you with knowing which McLaren is which! :)

I am 99.9% sure that you got the majority of information on the MP4-12C from Wikipedia.

Because I can see numbers amd words together in about the same order.
