McLaren Reveals Bits Of Its New Grand Tourer Ahead Of 15 May Debut

McLaren loves a good teaser, doesn’t it? And for its latest car, it looks like Woking will be really going to town when it comes to drip-feeding cropped images and tit-bits of information.

The British supercar-building firm has released a new picture plus a video of its all-new GT car, the latter piece of content revealing the first of the ‘New Rules’ it intends to establish for the segment. Rule number one, McLaren says, is “Never let tradition hold you back”. Judging by the camouflage on the McLaren GT test car that was in the news last month, there are at least nine of these, so buckle up, we’re potentially in for many more teasers from this point.

They’ll need to be released at a fast rate, however, as McLaren has also given us a date and time for the full reveal: 1300 British Summer Time on 15 May.

The car almost certainly be built around one of McLaren’s carbonfibre cells, and we’re expecting power to come from the 3.8-litre V8 used in the company’s Sports Series cars, rather than the newer 4.0-litre unit seen in Super Series cars.

Elements of the car’s validation test regime were divulged last month, with the GT said to have been sent on a 1000-mile trip from McLaren’s development centre in Spain to the MTC in Woking with a load of luggage. Test mules have racked up thousands of miles all over the world in extreme cold, brutal heat and a bit of everything in between.

“Never let tradition hold you back”.

I’d expect this is something the marketing team would say before revealing an SUV

but I’m happy they didn’t do this
