Man Goes To Great Lengths To Save E36 M3 From Hurricane Harvey Floodwater

Although he could do nothing to save his house from flooding, this BMW M3 owner sure as hell wasn't going to let the rising waters claim his cars

We heard this week that around 500,000 cars could end being scrapped due to the onslaught of Hurricane Harvey, but this guy from Houston, Texas was determined not to have any of his motors among that expected number.

Cody W. Crochet loaded his white E36 BMW M3 onto a trailer, and left his lifted X5 as is, figuring it had the ground clearance to escape the rising floodwater. That just left his other E36 M3, which he thought should be safe from the anticipated one foot of floodwater sitting on its original jackstands.

However, with the water rising rapidly, he resorted to adding garden blocks into the mix to get the extra height needed. It’s obviously not something which would normally be advisable - which Crochet himself admitted - but the right call given the circumstances. It paid off, too - in the end the water only just touched the bottom of the tyres.

Crochet uploaded a video (top of page) extensively documenting his efforts to save the red E36, with the following message in the description:

“Well Hurricane Harvey hit us harder and made more of an impact than we thought! We planned for one foot of water in the garage but we received way more than that as you will see in the video (over three foot). Follow along as I try and save all three cars. There was no saving the house but could lessen the blow by saving the cars.”

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen someone go to incredible lengths to save their ride from the wrath of Mother Nature. Last year, an E30 M3 owner earned legend status by parking his car inside his house to shelter it from Hurricane Matthew, proceeding to use his newfound fame to help out victims of the natural disaster.
